South Main Baptist Church Appoints Senior Pastor

South Main Baptist Church in Pasadena called the Rev. Daniel Crowther as its Senior Pastor. The appointment comes after a 10-month search to find the successor to Dr. Ron Lyles who retired as South Main’s Senior Pastor in August 2021. Crowther will begin his ministry at South Main on July 10, 2022.

Crowther, 38, currently serves as lead pastor of Coryell Community Church in Gatesville, a position he has held since 2017. Prior to CCC, he was pastor at Andice Baptist Church in Florence, Texas from 2010-1017.

"Daniel’s humble spirit comes with a deep spiritual maturity and emotional intelligence that guides his relationships with others," according to Kirk Lewis, chair of the South Main Pastor Search Team. "He is a loving pastor who loves the Lord and a gifted preacher with a heart for missions and ministry. We believe he is the perfect fit for South Main and our community."

Nolan Allen, a member of the Pastor Search Team, said, "Daniel’s preaching and teaching are biblically-based and doctrinally sound…always. He shares our congregation’s heart for missions and our desire to be God’s hands in service to our community." He said, "For Daniel and Danielle, it is never about them, but always about growing the body of Christ as his disciples and reaching the unchurched for Jesus."

Crowther becomes only the third pastor in South Main Baptist’s 68-year history. Dr. B. J. Martin served the congregation for 26 years from its founding in 1954 until 1981. Lyle’s led the church for 40 years until his retirement last year.

Crowther graduated in 2009 from Boyce College in Louisville, KY, with a bachelor’s degree in counseling. He earned a Master of Divinity degree from Truett Seminary at Baylor University in 2016, with a concentration in Ministry Leadership. He is currently working on his Doctorate of Ministry degree also from Truett Seminary. He is set to complete his degree in December 2022.

In addition to his ministry as senior pastor, Crowther was worship minister at First Baptist Church, Carrollton, KY, from 2008-10, and an associate pastor at First Baptist Church, Grayson, KY from 2006-07. He was ordained in 2004 at Kento-Boo Baptist Church in Florence, KY.

Crowther and his wife Danielle have been married for 18 years. Both were born and raised in South Carolina. They have three children, Zoe, 13; Mia, 12 and Abel, 9. According to Lewis, "Danielle complements Daniel’s personality and his work beautifully. She has a passion for foster children and children with special needs."

In other ministry related activities, Crowther participated in the Peer Group Learning Program of Baylor University and served as Director of Fellowship Activities at Coryell Baptist Association. He was a member of the New Work Team (church planting) at Strategic Church Solutions in Georgetown, TX, and as minister to Alzheimer patients at a care facility in Georgetown and as police chaplain for the Austin Police Department.
